How to Make a Big-Mouth Fish Origami | Easy Paper Craft for Kids

Tags

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Crafty Krab — the place where creativity takes shape, one fold at a time.

Today, we’re going to make something super fun and super cute: a Big-Mouth Fish origami!
This is one of my favorite beginner-friendly projects because it’s simple, playful, and the final result looks absolutely adorable. You can use it for storytelling, puppets, decorations, or just for fun.

For this project, all you need is a square sheet of paper. Any color works great, but brighter colors make your fish look even more lively. As we fold, just take your time, relax, and enjoy the process. Origami isn’t about perfection — it’s about having fun and letting your creativity flow.

The Big-Mouth Fish is special because of its expressive shape. With a few folds, the paper transforms into a fish with a wide, animated mouth that makes it look like it’s ready to talk, laugh, or even gobble up tiny paper snacks. Kids absolutely love this model, and adults find it charming too. You can even make several fish in different sizes to create your own little underwater world.

As you shape the head and form the mouth, you’ll start to see the personality of your fish appear. You can make the mouth wider or smaller depending on how dramatic you want it to look. This is also a great chance to experiment — origami is always more exciting when you add your own style. Once the body and tail come together, the fish starts to look full of character, almost like it’s ready to swim off your table.

When your fish is fully formed, the final touches make all the difference. Adding eyes — either drawn or with stickers — brings it to life instantly. You can give it a cute happy expression, a surprised look, or even a funny cartoon face. If you’d like, you can decorate the fins or add stripes and patterns to make each fish unique. Crafty Krab is all about creativity, so feel free to customize your fish however you like!
